Unlock Your Potential: The R.E.S.T. Method
Build Your Foundation, Strengthen Your Mindset, and Thrive
You’re super smart; I know you’ve heard this plenty of times.
The definition of Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
Even though we know this - we fall into insane cycles all of the time.
These cycles can look like:
Fitness: How often have you set out to lose some pounds but find it hard to be consistent with your workouts or cut sugar?
Waking up early: You repeatedly tell yourself that you will go to bed at 9 p.m. so that you can wake up at 6 to start your morning routine. But how many times do you find yourself up working or watching TV after 11 p.m.?
In Business: You want to sell out your event, but you are doing the same thing you did last year—starting your promotions late or not being clear about the benefits attendees will receive by attending.
It feels insane that we can’t make these small things happen with ease.
You’re not alone - I struggle with these too.
There comes a point when we realize that doing the same things in life and business will not work, and we need to make a change if we want a different result.
How can we make changes that have sustainable results?
There’s nothing worse than losing 10 lbs to gain it back in 2 months.
Or having a great business launch and then being unable to repeat that success the following year.
We want to develop habits that last.
The easiest way to describe a habit is the usual way of behaving.
James Clear talks about this really well in his book Atomic Habits:
All are a result of habits. What we repeatedly do, each and every day, ultimately forms the results we enjoy and the goals we achieve. Change your habits, change your systems, and you'll transform your life.
We need a few foundations to establish sustainable habits. In the end, the goal is to be your best day in and day out over the course of months and years while working on what matters to you.
I’ve put this into 4 levels and like to call it R.E.S.T.. Here is a brief overview of them:
Most people love the details and skip the foundations.
Level 1: Rejuvenate
In this foundational level, we focus on rejuvenation—nurturing ourselves and creating a solid base for success. Think of it as tending to the garden of your life, ensuring that it's well-watered and nourished. This means prioritizing essentials like restful sleep, maintaining physical health, and curating an efficient workspace. Just like a sturdy foundation supports a house, these practices form the bedrock upon which all else is built.
Level 2: Empowered Mindset
With our foundation laid, it's time to cultivate an empowered mindset—a mental fortress that equips us to face life's challenges with resilience and clarity. This level is about fostering the inner strength to set boundaries, navigate obstacles, and maintain a positive outlook, even in the face of adversity. It's the psychological toolkit that empowers us to thrive, both personally and professionally.
Level 3: Support Systems
Having fortified our mindset, we now focus on practical support systems—the tools and techniques that streamline our workflow, optimize our time management, and boost productivity. From utilizing calendars and apps to implementing productivity hacks, these strategies provide the scaffolding needed to transform our aspirations into tangible results.
Level 4: Thriving Momentum
At this stage, we leverage our generated momentum to propel ourselves forward with purpose and vigor. It's about seizing opportunities, confronting challenges head-on, and maintaining our progress over the long haul. This level embodies a continual growth and adaptation mindset, where we actively seek out new avenues for self-improvement and pursue our goals with unwavering determination.
People who are at the top of their game — I’m talking about CEOs, bestselling authors, entrepreneurs, and elite athletes — have the first 2 tiers mastered before they dive into details.
I’ve been fascinated by my clients for years. They are people who operate head and shoulders above everyone else. Over the years, I asked them questions to understand what they did differently. What are their habits? How do they set real boundaries? Were they simply “gifted” from birth?
I found that they didn’t rely on motivation, which is going fast for everyone.
Instead, they ride motivational waves to implement systems so that they can continue to perform when they know they can’t.
Most people look for motivation and get upset when they can’t find it. But people with these R.E.S.T foundations in place plan to have periods when their motivation will be low and work with it. That’s a complete paradigm shift!
