For those who celebrated Thanksgiving this week, I hope it was wonderful, whatever form it took. Since leaving the US, I've learned something interesting about traditions – they can evolve and sometimes get even better.
This year, we chose a different path instead of rushing to create a traditional Thursday feast (with kids in school and a regular workday, it's quite the challenge!). We joined our expat community for a Saturday BBQ filled with laughter, kids running around, and parents catching up. And you know what? It felt just right.
That's one of the beautiful things about expat life – you can choose which traditions to keep, which to adapt, and which new ones to create. Yes, you can absolutely find turkey and all the fixings abroad if that's important to you. But you also have permission to create something entirely new.
